Artsy
Excuse me missy, but do you know where my ten year old went?
Today after school, the hubs came home early and we scurried off to see my youngest child's artwork at a local Art show. It was in a conference center and it was really nicely put together.
She received an engraved invitation to the event, and the rest of us had to pay to get in.
She dressed up and we curled her hair (hubs said she should have worn a black turtleneck and a bun with a paintbrush through it).
We were excited to see her art work that was selected as one of ten from her school picked by the principal for the art auction and show.
The art work was displayed beautifully around the center, and it really seemed like a real art gallery.
She spotted her painting right away, and I was SO VERY impressed when she pointed it out.
She has creativity in her blood, I do believe.
She seems to be great at creating and expressing herself through lots of different mediums: paint, crayon, pencil, fabric.
We took lots of pictures, but the high point for her (second to getting to pick up a donut on the way home) was when a lady we don't know came up and asked her to show her where her artwork was hanging.
My daughter took her to her piece. She was so complimentary of her work, and asked my daughter about how she got the inspiration for the piece and created it.
It was so sweet of her to take such a special interest in her. An art teacher from another school also stopped her and asked to see her artwork.
I was very impressed with the show, and the talent of the local elementary school, middle school, high school students as well as teachers and community members. Caitlin's art teacher had a gorgeous watercolor portrait of her son displayed.
I know reading about me bragging about my kids gets old, but this blog is mostly for my kids to preserve snapshots of their quickly shrinking childhood years, and I always want her to be able to look back on this when she is opening her gallery in New York or Charleston one day.
It also really inspired me to keep trying to tap into my creative energy. It never seems to get any easier to find time for a hobby, but you know what, I think it's even more necessary at this point in my life.
What gets your creative juices flowing?

Where did your 10yo go? That's EXACTLY what I thought when I saw her picture. So grown-up and beautiful---LOVE the curled hair!
Very talented too. I guess my eyes are bad b/c first I thought, "Oooh, look at all the pretty birds." and then I realized they were FISH! This picture needs some custom framing and a special place on the wall at home.
My son is also very artsy, but he doesn't get it from either of his parents! What gets my creative juices flowing....I'll tell you when they start flowing again. I'm dry as a bone right now.
And don't ever apologize for bragging on your babies! That's what blogs--and friends--are for!
Have I told you how much I love your new background and header for the fall season? LOVE!
A certain proud grandmother also told me to check out your blog. Ashly is Artsy and her artwork is beautiful.
I saw where Google is saying that you can turn your blog into a book.
It is a joy to read these snippets of life and joy.
