My entire family loves this show. Frankie and Mike crack us up, and I love all the information they share about the antiques they find.
What a dream job! Traveling the country, meeting interesting people, digging through people's junk to find treasures that you sell so you can travel to find MORE treasures.
I love that they always get the story behind the person's junk pile while they are digging through it. Usually, they have some kind of sentiment attached to the things they save/hoard, but some people just make a hobby out of collecting stuff.
Sometimes they buy rusty, old, useless looking stuff, and you can not believe what it is worth!
Last night they bought what a man said was "a platypus mouthed" dinosaur bone for $450. I really thought it was a peice of wood that had been made to look like a bone.
It turned out it was a real dinosaur bone, and they donated it to a museum after a palentologist told them how important a find it was for the state of Tennessee.
Cool stuff. They buy a lot of motorcycle and car parts and stuff, which is not my favorite kind of stuff, but I do appreciate the history behind the cars and companies they share.
They meet some interesting characters, and have a lot of fun along the way.
Anyway, while we were tree hunting (see my last post) we stumbled upon several barns on the tree farm that would have been right up the Pickers' alley.
In all honesty, I have to admit that all this junk makes me want to clean it up really badly. I mean REALLY badly.
I can't even stand to have a bag of trash in my garage waiting for the dump for more than one day!
I love the idea of traveling and meeting people and hearing their stories appeals to my adventurous side.
What would your ideal job be?

You had me at your title. We love American Pickers, too, but I had completely forgotten that last night was the new season premiere.
I love Frank and Mike's enthusiasm for their job. Some of those places would make me scream if I had to go in and sift through all that junk! Sometimes I get a little tired of Mike's love of bicycles and Frank's love of oil cans :-)
I would like a similar job, but I would be on the lookout for vintage lunchboxes, food tins, advertising signs, Coke and Pepsi stuff, and postcards and other paper stuff. I have my kitchen decorated like an old-timey general store with all of the above stuff (except the postcards). I have a framed picture of my great-grandmother standing in front of the general store that she used to run.
If I couldn't be a picker, I think I would like to be a baker.
Great topic! Keep those pics coming!
I would like to pick up all the stuff at the lady who lives next doors and give it to any one who will take it.
